The history of the Voronezh Reserve Museum
Overview of the history of the museum
The Museum of Nature was established 80 years ago, starting to receive visitors from all over the world in 1934. It was based on scientific collections studying the river beaver, which were written by Khlebovich Wilhelm Kazimirovich. At first, the creators of the museum planned to continue collecting zoological collections, but over time the exposition expanded. A new task was to show visitors the wildlife of the reserve.
Development and important milestones in the history of the museum
From 1934 to 1941, employees of the reserve itself acted as employees of the museum. In addition, the duties included the collection of natural materials, and in 1938, the care of the design of the effigies also fell on their shoulders.
During the war, the exhibits were not exported outside the museum, only scientific collections. The latter returned from the rear in 1943, and the staff went back to work.
The museum received the modern building in 1984. In 2017, a new interactive exhibition was opened, 50 corners of the forest were recreated, herbariums, schemes on geology and hydrology were presented.
Museum expositions
The museum's exhibition area is more than 800 square meters. It houses 4 interactive halls
Sections of the museum devoted to the geology, ecology and climate of the region
The first hall contained the familiar diorama "Duel", which shows a deer and a wolf preparing for a fight. There is also a diorama "Inhabitants of reservoirs" with famous works by I.I. Kovalevsky.
It is in this hall that all the information of the museum is located, which concerns the protection of nature, the history and activities of the Voronezh Nature Reserve.
Description of the main expositions dedicated to the flora and fauna of the reserve
The second hall is presented with showcases and information about river beavers, which were the reason for the creation of the reserve. There are wall paintings with panels, dioramas and samples of beaver fur products.
The third hall is called "Hoofed animals". It presents stands with information about the ungulates of the reserve, dioramas and a collection of horns, including a unique sample of deer antlers interlocked during a duel.
The fourth hall of the museum is called "The Forest". It is represented by the fauna of the reserve: birds, animals, insects and mammals. The guests note that the central panorama "Floodplain of the Usman River" is amazing in terms of craftsmanship. This is a unique work for Russia, where every detail of leaves and grass is indistinguishable from the real one.

Details about the rarest and most interesting exhibits
A large-scale and spectacular diorama "Moose in a pine forest" by the authorship of taxidermist M.I. Remezov appeared in the museum in the 50s. The artist I.D. Rudykin was engaged in the creation of the forest. When the museum received a new modern building, the diorama was designed by artists V.F. Sukhov and V.P. Didenko, replacing the aspen forest with a pine one. Currently, the yellow-throated mouse and many plants characteristic of the reserve can be seen on the exhibit. Having undergone many alterations, the diorama has even acquired insects living in the trunk of a pine tree.
